Benefits of Companion Suite Living

Living in a community setting can provide a sense of belonging, diminish loneliness, and can lead to overall happier living. The Kensington Redondo Beach offers community living by living in a senior friendly environment filled with activities, other residents and a team of individuals who dedicate their lives and careers to working with seniors. The Kensington is designed to improve and enrich the lives of our residents, families and friends.

Many older adults can become isolated from health conditions, lack of transportation, friends or loved ones not being local, or even loss of friends. This can make it instrumentally difficult for seniors to live alone and contributes to depression, isolation as well as loneliness.

The Kensington offers several different floor plans, but more uniquely The Kensington offers companion living in both our assisted living and memory care neighborhoods. Companion living offers our Assisted Living residents the opportunity to share common areas like a kitchenette while still being able to maintain their own private living and bathroom spaces. Living in a shared suite provides individuals with a sense of belonging, encourages conversation and socialization as well as facilitates the development of friendships. Additionally, companion living can be a great financial alternative while still receiving the benefits of a community setting. Many seniors find themselves combating loneliness as spouses, friends, and loved ones are either no longer local or living. The presence of another in a shared living space can reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Many of our residents who share companion suites not only have have the opportunity to bond with their suite mate, but to create other friendships within the community from either suite mates own social network – this can include both family and external friend circles.

Our Memory Care neighborhoods, Connections and Haven additionally offer companion living as well. In Memory Care, our rooms are designed to give residents their own private living space while still offering the ability to interact with others in their shared companion suites. Some of our rooms provide private living space with private bath and others incorporate a shared bathroom space. It is important to maintain a good amount of socialization when diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia as loneliness and isolation can speed up the process of cognitive decline and it is cost effective. We strive to keep our residents engaged and promote the companionship that not only our staff can bring to our residents but that our residents can provide for one another.
