Your Future in Memory Care: How to Join Our Specialized Neighborhoods in Redondo Beach

When you step into the world of memory care, you step into something bigger than a career, you step into purpose.

At The Kensington Redondo Beach, our memory care neighborhoods, Connections and Haven, are designed to support residents through every stage of cognitive change. And we’re always looking for passionate individuals to grow with us.

If you’re exploring memory care jobs in senior living, this guide will show you what it takes to thrive, from the certifications required to the meaningful daily work, and why the rewards are as personal as they are profound.

Our Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own.

Understanding Our Two Memory Care Neighborhoods: Connections & Haven

Memory loss progresses differently for every individual. That’s why we created two distinct memory care neighborhoods within our community to support the evolving needs of our residents:

  • Connections: For those in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia, this neighborhood focuses on purposeful routines, social engagement, and cognitive stimulation.
  • Haven: For individuals in the more advanced stages of cognitive decline, Haven offers a secure, sensory-focused environment designed to reduce agitation, ensure safety, and provide comfort.

Team members staff both neighborhoods, trained not just in technique, but in empathy, patience, and creativity. If you feel called to make a difference through compassionate caregiving, this might be your path.

Certifications & Qualifications: What You’ll Need

To begin working in memory care at The Kensington Redondo Beach, candidates typically need:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification in California
  • A current CPR and First Aid certification
  • A strong understanding of dementia care best practices (or willingness to learn)
  • Fingerprint clearance and health screenings in line with state regulations

While prior experience in dementia care is a plus, we also welcome those with the right heart, dedication, and openness to grow.

We offer on-site training programs that help you build confidence as you begin your memory care journey.

A Day in the Life: What Memory Care Team Members Do

Every day in Connections and Haven is structured yet flexible, adapting to residents’ needs while fostering comfort, familiarity, and enrichment.

Morning Routines

  • Gently assisting residents with personal care and dressing
  • Encouraging participation in group breakfast or one-on-one mealtime routines
  • Reviewing individualized care plans and noting any changes in behavior or health

Midday Engagement

  • Leading or assisting with therapeutic activities, such as art, music, or memory games
  • Supporting outings or sensory stimulation in secured garden spaces
  • Providing companionship and reassurance during transitions between activities

Afternoon & Evening Care

  • Monitoring for signs of fatigue, restlessness, or agitation
  • Preparing residents for evening relaxation rituals, like quiet reading or light stretching
  • Collaborating with nurses and wellness coordinators to maintain continuity of care

In both neighborhoods, team members are not just caregivers, they’re lifelines of familiarity, joy, and dignity.

The Rewards of Memory Care Work

Working in memory care means forming relationships that go beyond the surface.

You’ll learn a resident’s favorite music, the way their eyes light up when they smell lavender, or how to redirect them when they become anxious, gently.

You’ll experience:

  • The deep satisfaction of helping someone feel safe and understood
  • The honor of supporting families through difficult transitions
  • The joy of laughter in unexpected moments, like dancing in the hallway or baking cookies together

Memory care roles at The Kensington Redondo Beach offer meaningful senior care jobs that truly make an impact.

Built-In Training & Growth Opportunities

We don’t expect you to know everything on Day One. That’s why we invest in ongoing education and mentorship, including:

  • Dementia care certification workshops
  • Peer shadowing with experienced team members
  • Regular training on safety, communication, and sensory-based techniques
  • Support to pursue advanced certifications in dementia care and nursing

Real-Time Collaboration & Team Support

You won’t be alone at work. Our memory care neighborhoods thrive because of team collaboration:

  • Daily care huddles to align on resident needs
  • Scheduled debriefs and caregiver support circles
  • Open access to leadership for suggestions and support

We also maintain high caregiver-to-resident ratios, so you can take the time needed to connect and care with intention.
