Senior living resumés: Growing your purpose at The Kensington Redondo Beach

A career in senior living isn’t about titles or timelines—it’s about relationships.

At The Kensington Redondo Beach, our community is built on connection, service, and love. That’s why we’re looking for people who lead with kindness and thrive in a team environment.

We currently have a variety of job openings at our upscale assisted living and memory care community near Los Angeles.

Full-Time & Part-Time Care Partners (CNAs, HHAs, PCAs) in Assisted Living and Memory Care

These frontline team members provide daily support, from helping residents dress or bathe, to guiding them to meals and activities. Memory care caregivers often support those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia and require added sensitivity and attentiveness.

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

LVNs provide skilled nursing care and medication support while building trusted relationships with residents and families. This role is ideal for clinically trained professionals who also lead with heart.

Private Duty Aid or Assistant

This one-on-one care role offers more individualized attention and often deeper connections with residents. It’s perfect for those who enjoy personal interaction and tailored care.

Concierge

The concierge is the heartbeat of the front desk—welcoming visitors, assisting families, and providing exceptional service with a smile. Think of it as the first impression of our community.

Prep Cook & Cook

Dining is a major part of life at The Kensington Redondo Beach, and our culinary team makes it special. These roles are about more than preparing food—they’re about nourishing residents with meals and warmth.

It truly takes a village to keep our community thriving. While care partners are essential, every role—from the front desk to the kitchen—contributes to the loving atmosphere our residents call home.

Resumé and interview best practices for senior living careers

Let’s talk about what helps you shine as a job candidate in this field.

Whether you’re applying to be a care partner or a concierge, there are some simple, thoughtful ways to stand out with your senior living resumé and during the interview process.

Resumé gaps are more common than you think

Let’s clear the air: we don’t view resumé gaps as red flags. Many of our best team members have rejoined the workforce after stepping away to care for a parent, recover from an illness, or raise a child.

If your resumé has a gap, don’t hide it—own it. You don’t need to write a long explanation. A short sentence will do, for example:

Took time away from the workforce to provide full-time care for a family member, which deepened my appreciation for senior care and inspired this career path.”

That’s it. Be honest, be brief, and show us that you’re ready to return to the workforce with purpose.

Highlight your heart and your transferable skills

Even if you’ve never worked in senior living before, you probably have more relevant experience than you think.

Skills like:

  • Customer service (great for concierge or dining roles)
  • Time management
  • Compassion and empathy
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Problem-solving under pressure

At The Kensington Redondo Beach, we promise to love and care for our residents as we do our own family. That means we’re not just looking for resumes—we’re looking for people who show heart in everything they do.

In your resumé and interviews, look for moments that show who you are, not just what you’ve done. For example: “I helped resolve a conflict between two customers with patience and clear communication” speaks volumes about how you might support and connect with our residents.

Prepare for success: what to bring and how to show up

A few resumé and interview best practices to help you feel confident and prepared:

  • Bring multiple copies of your resumé: Even if you applied online, printed versions are helpful, especially in group interviews, which are common for Care Partner roles.
  • Dress professionally but comfortably: You don’t need formal wear, but polished, business casual clothing goes a long way.
  • Arrive 5–10 minutes early: It shows respect and punctuality without making the team feel rushed.
  • Read up on The Kensington Redondo Beach: Visit our website and get a feel for our culture. Knowing Our Promise—“to love and care for your family as we do our own”—will help you connect authentically in your interview.
  • Ask thoughtful questions: This shows engagement and genuine interest.

If you’re attending a group interview, remember that it’s not a competition—it’s a chance to see how well you engage with others. Listen actively, contribute when it’s natural, and show your collaborative spirit.
