Commonly asked assisted living questions

We know the move to assisted living comes with many questions – for you and your entire family. At The Kensington Redondo Beach, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

The answers to these common questions are just the beginning. If you’d like more information or need personal guidance, our team is here to listen, support, and help you find the best path forward – reach out to us anytime.

What is assisted living?

In an assisted living community, aging adults have access to 24/7 care, dining services, engaging activities, social opportunities, and on-site physical, speech, and occupational therapy.

Assisted living is ideal for those who can no longer safely live at home and need help with daily tasks such as meals, medication, hygiene, and managing appointments or bills. It’s also a great option for aging adults who feel overwhelmed by home upkeep, crave social connection, and need support to continue thriving while maintaining their personal care needs.

How do I know if assisted living is the right option?

Aging adults who are ready for assisted living are often still somewhat independent but can no longer live safely on their own. Many have health concerns that require regular medical attention and access to an on-site nurse.

If your loved one is struggling in any of these areas, it may be time to consider whether assisted living is the best next step:

  • Meal Preparation – Are they eating balanced meals or struggling to cook?

  • Safety & Mobility – Have there been falls or difficulty moving around safely?

  • Transportation – Can they drive safely or arrange other transportation?

  • Socialization – Are they staying socially connected and leaving the house?

  • Home Management – Is their home being properly maintained?

  • Financial Management – Are bills paid on time, or is unopened mail piling up?

What are the levels of memory care?

The Kensington Club in Assisted Living

For assisted living residents in the earliest stages of memory loss, The Kensington Club offers a specialized program designed to provide tailored cognitive stimulation, social engagement, and emotional support. This program helps residents maintain their independence and confidence for as long as possible while easing the transition into more advanced memory care, if needed.

The Connections Neighborhood

Connections is designed for residents in the early-to-middle stages of Alzheimer’s and provides an intimate, comfortable environment. We focus on encouraging residents to engage in daily socialization and purposeful activities that bring meaning to each day. By staying attuned to their maximum cognitive abilities and recall, we help residents make the most of their strengths while supporting their families along the way. The staff-to-resident ratio in Connections is 1:7.

Haven is designed for residents in the middle-to-late stages of Alzheimer’s, offering a safe, soothing, and secure environment. Here, residents receive the highest level of care with compassion and dignity, minimizing agitation and ensuring comfort. The staff-to-resident ratio in Haven is 1:5.
